The exhibition offers a new set of works by Laurent Fiévet, some of which have never been shown.
Starting from the emblem of the building – a flight of birds – the artist embraces in his series Whistle the entire history of cinema to engage, through the diffusion of a hundred video loops where birds in cages systematically appear, a reflection on the questions of otherness, gender and femininity.
Their singing is also invoked in his series On the Tip of the Tongue associating on the mezzanine of the MaCI the beginnings of different musical numbers that have also marked the history of cinema.
As a counterpoint, other video loops and installations changed daily on the stage of the Theatre and in the cinema of MaCI, offer a wider range of formal proposals. Opening the field to universes as contrasted as those of Alain Resnais (November 2023, Return to Marienbad), Alfred Hitchcok (States of Grace, Carlotta’s Way/Returning Carlotta’s Way), Stanley Kubrick (Tuesday), Luchino Visconti (Suites Baroques) or Yasujirō Ozu (Kintsugi), they move certain principles of inventory, circulation and restructuring through editing addressed by the first set of installations. Each of these peripheral programs is introduced by a speaker who will lend his voice to the exhibition.
Closing the circle, the exhibition completes the Teorema show presented at Cinémathèque de Grenoble by opening other pictorial points of view on Pasolini’s film Teorema.
