Presentation of Breaking up video series
After attempting in 2024 to exhaust a landscape by inventing a sonic double for it, Radio FarWest returns two years later for a new collective journey. This edition draws on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to paint a sensitive portrait of contemporary states of love. Much like Orpheus—a poet and musician capable of deeply moving others with his song—the station uses music and the human voice as the instruments of this exploration. Over the course of 24 hours, songs, stories, breaths, music, spoken words, and soundscapes map out love in all its variations. Encounters, desire, impatience, anticipation, doubt, loss, and grief become states experienced throughout the broadcasts.
The myth serves as the central thread and narrative framework for these 24 hours of live radio. Like an ancient serial, the story of Orpheus and Eurydice unfolds across 24 episodes, woven between the various programs and spoken segments. From the initial romantic encounter to the descent into the Underworld, and on to Eurydice’s disappearance and Orpheus’s tragic fate, the myth shapes the journey.
Woven around this core narrative are contemporary stories, digressions, songs, and scenes that question how we love today. The radio thus becomes a space where voices circulate—a stream of love connecting a multitude of voices through music and song.
In this way, Radio FarWest allows the ancient poet’s gesture to resonate with contemporary radio creation: singing to express love, loss, and the bonds that connect us.
